Reaching Our Kids

"Because Kids Need Jesus More Than Anything"

The dreaming stages for The R.O.K. began years ago in the minds of Duke and Karla Underwood. Both Duke and Karla had worked with children for many years professionally. They saw a great need to reach at risk kids with the love of Christ through the compassion of Christian people. The main goal is seeing kids begin to understand and experience the love of God through real life, tangible ways.

In January 2002, R.E.A.C.H. Up U.S.A. took possession of a large portion of the former Posey Elementary School (1301 Redbud), located in the east part of Lubbock, Texas.  In March of 2002, they opened their doors to kids and volunteers.  Today kids come to The R.O.K. on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. for recreation, crafts, devotions, tutoring and a meal.  In the future, we want to expand this ministry to Saturdays and throughout the summers.  This would be contingent on volunteers and financial contributions.  

Many of the children we are reaching come from homes where the child is being raised by extended family, single parents, grandparents or other arranged guardianship.  Due to the hardships and challenges that face many people in life, many of our children are at or below the national level of poverty.  Our hope is to provide for these children and their families in spiritual, physical, emotional and educational ways.  We want to enhance the potential for their growth into a well- rounded person who is able to pursue and attain all that God has for them.

The Ministries of R.E.A.C.H. Up USA and The R.O.K appreciate the prayers, financial support and volunteerism of people who are concerned about and take an active role in spreading the Good News of Jesus to the world.
